Hermes – From Saddles To Perfumes

Posted on: Oct 21, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

Hermes is a Paris based fashion, perfume, and leather goods company. Thierry Hermes founded the company in 1837; originally as a manufacturer of saddles, riding boots, and bridles, catering to the carriage trade of the time. Over the years, the company’s catalog grew to include its signature silk scarf, luggage and couture, fragrances, glass wear and tableware, and ready-to-wear lines.

Since its inception as a leather goods shop in Paris, the company had been offering products of the highest quality. In 1855 the company won the first prize for businesses in its class at the Paris Exposition. Their well-designed and finely wrought leather riding items earned them not only the highest accolades, but also a large and loyal following.

When the carriage and horse riding industry began to wane in favor of automobiles, Hermes adapted its expertise at leather working to the creation of leather wallets, bags, luggage, and other accessories. These accessories were generally for sports such as golf and polo, leading to Hermes’ line of couture sportswear. In fact in the 1920′s, the brand made fashion news by designing for the Prince of Wales a zippered leather golfing jacket. (At the time the zipper was actually a new invention.)

The company continued to expand well into the 20th century, continually adding more items to their lineup. Their perfumery started in 1951, and over the decades since then Hermes has created such scents as Terre D’Hermes, Hiris, Rouge Hermes, and Un Jardin sur le Nil.

By the 1980s their lineup was truly immense, with clothing and accessories in different luxurious materials and styles, as well as date books and teapots. Since the company never gave out licenses, they are able to monitor closely the quality of each and every one of their items.

Through the years the company has maintained a mien of conservative luxury, with many items still bearing equestrian motifs, designating the company’s historic origins. But to the fashion industry’s surprise, at the turn of the century, the company hired on a few of the more radical designers of the day – who fortunately proved their worth by living up to the Hermes name.

A Man’s Primer on Sexy Lingerie Styles

Posted on: Oct 20, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

For the last couple years lingerie and sexy wear sales have been booming. Intimate apparel terms like bustiers, baby dolls and teddies have become part of the female vocabulary. And their admiring men, too! Both Penney’s and Spiegel have recently announced big plans for expanding their lingerie lines. On-line, top Internet-only firms such as Sensual Mystique, Poison Angel and Elegant Moments report booming sales. It appears more and more women are buying lingerie for themselves and accepting gifts of lingerie from their husbands or partners.

A Melbourne fashion retailer has even suggested that the Australian government subsidize lingerie makers to help save marriages. The managing director of Lethal Fashion Accessories, Gail Lee, says the bonds of marriage should be reinforced with satin, lace and marriage truckload of Federal Government cash. He wants the government to subsidize half the cost. Not surprisingly, the Government has not responded.

Lingerie has come a long way from the white bra and panties photos that graced our mothers’ Sears and Penney’s catalogs. Now firms such as Victoria’s Secret define what women want to wear to feel sexy and desirable to men. And, according to these sellers, it’s the men that are doing a good deal of the shopping lately, making purchases that replace flowers or candy for a hot bra/pantie set or a sexy see-through teddy!

Who are these lingerie buying women? That’s what Anderson Analytics, A Stamford, Ct marketing research firm, wanted to find out. The results of their research confirmed some assumptions and contradicted others. They found that the “average size” (meaning slightly plus size) American woman feels under served by firms such as Victoria’s Secret who cater to a smaller and younger woman. They also discovered that these marriage American women were surprisingly confident about their sexuality and had no qualms about buying and wearing lingerie. “Career women,” however, were more insecure about their body image that what was assumed. “Apparently, size has little to do with our image of ourselves, and corporate stress can have a negative influence on our confidence,” the report concluded.

Go to any lingerie store, whether it be a suburban mall or on-line, and you’ll be amazed at the variety of choices. The terms alone can be overwhelming especially for clueless males. OK men, let’s do some defining:

Baby Dolls – These are lacy short gowns that are typically open in front with a single tie. Most are sheer or semi-sheer. They usually come with a matching thong.

Monokinis – This is a one-piece swim type suit but with large openings to show more skin. Swimming is optional.

Jumpsuits/cat suits- One piece form-fitting head-to-toe suit, many with an opening in front to show skin, sometimes a lot of skin. Usually made of spandex.

Teddy – One-pieces, like the body suit; teddies are often adorned with lace and ribbon. A sexier style comes with garters and is worn with stockings.

Bustier – A figure forming bra with sides that come down to the waist. Think Madonna.

Booty shorts – This hot style is defined by ultra tight spandex shorts that ride high in the rear. Add a matching mini top and you’ve got a booty short set.

Chain mail- Bra and panty set of linked chain often laced with rhinestones – and little else.

Add in g-strings, mini-dresses, chaps, leather wear, and sleek fishnet hose and you’ve got a recipe for sexy fun that can infuse spice and variety into almost anyone’s relationship.

What Do Women Consider The Perfect Handbag?

Posted on: Oct 13, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

For women, handbags are more an expression of fashion chocolate personality than merely functionality and it is for this reason they are sacred. As I recall, there are approximately five brands of handbags that are worthy of ownership Louis Vuitton, Coach, Prada, Gucci and Burberry.

Your Handbag, although an accessory to your wardrobe, is not usually separately rewarded with compliments. But, when someone recognizes your handbag for the maker and perhaps owns one, that’s a good thing.

A woman’s opinion would be quite different, however it is startling at how ugly today’s more fashionable handbags are. For instance, if brown is your color, you might choose the muddy brown colored Louis Vuitton Handbag with the clip-art style emblems in a check pattern and everyone wants one. If a lighter version of brown checks suit you then the equally popular looking tan Burberry Handbag might suite you better.

Whether men “cringe” at the sight of some of them, and women “adore” them, surely the design cannot account for their immense popularity.

If a bag is attractive it can make you feel wonderful but it’s all about proportion, shape, line, finish, fabric, and balance. If it is all of these it will sell.

Fake or real, “it’s like you’ve got to have it or you’ll die.” The collection Handbag is more important, even more than shoes, to accessorize a woman’s wardrobe. Handbags are most closely tied to a woman’s rousing persona than another other piece of fashion.
It expresses what group you want to be considered a part of although you start your own group.

Woman of today don’t fit into the mass marketing of the past. Compared to a woman’s experience online, she can choose how her screen appears, what her username tells, her photos portray, and literally build a virtual sort of identity. Women are distinctive and each hold vibrant, unique personalities. Woman will agree it’s tough to stand out and fit in all at once. So perhaps there is an avenue for both – Perhaps it is symbolized in the Perfect Handbag.

One last thing, “is it real or is it fake?” There is a difference between handbags that are obviously not an original. For example, there are the designer fakes that have initials almost exactly mimicking a genuine designer, and a purse that has different initials but a similar design. Usually, the inferior craftsmanship in a knockoff designer bag consists of puckered seams, low quality leather, and large and uneven stitching. Another giveaway for fakes is the price. A real Louis Vuitton handbag sell for about $500.00 to $1,000.00 and a knockoff can be purchased for around $100.00 to $200.00 each. And you can bet that if you buy your purse out of the trunk of a car, you can pretty much bet it’s not real!

The History of Prada Designer Handbags

Posted on: Oct 13, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

Prada handbags are carriable masterpieces and these bags simone perele deliver a fashion statement with a touch of class. Many also think they are, and have been for many years, the best handbag around.

Prada was established collection 1913 by Mario Prada in Italy. The company Fratelli Prada, Italian for Prada Brothers, started designing and creating their range of leather handbags and goods from two boutiques in Milan many years before Prada became a well known fashion brand. This soon changed however as the company evolved and captured the imagination of people in Europe and America.

After Mario, who believed against women interacting with business, passed away, his son had no interest in the company, so it was inherited by his daughter-in-law where it was maintained for nearly 20 years. In 1978 her own daughter, Miuccia Prada took over the company. Miuccia, Mario’s granddaughter, at the time had a PhD in political science, although no other qualifications a top designer may expect. However, The label had been struggling financially for several years due to competition from other designers like Gucci. Miuccia did have some experience in making bags, as she made backpacks from black nylon for a few years prior to taking over.

She had previously met Patrizio Bertelli who joined her, greatly advising on decisions within the Prada company. As she went about changing the label into what it is today, she went on to release the classic Prada handbag which was made from simple black nylon, and in 1985 it became an overnight success.

Prada then followed up on this with its pret-a-porter collection – elegant, simple pieces featuring clean lines, luxurious fabrics, and simple colors. The fashion world took notice, and Prada’s popularity carried on rocketing up.

Within 2 years, Miuccia won two fashion awards awards, in 1993 she received an international reward from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and then in 1995 she also won the “Designer of the Year” Award. Since then, Prada has gone on to open boutiques in dozens of cities and countries worldwide. Miuccia is attributed to using many new fabrics and accessories on making fashion accessories in the entire Prada ranges. A typical Prada handbag is usually made of materials like deerskin, leather, calfskin and fox fur trim whereas the strap hooks, buckles and clasps are generally made of silver or gold.

Prada designer handbags come in wide range of signature colors such as champagne, camel, black, natural canvas, pewter and, of course, white, but also on occasion more vibrant brighter colors.

Nowadays, Prada handbags are incredibly practical and usually come with an assortment of extra features that help you carry your cosmetics and other things with ease. These features include inner pockets with zips (to stop things falling about), magnetic snap bag closing fasteners and key rings. Of course, lets not forget that the number one feature on the bag is always going to be the Prada logo plate, proudly displayed on the bag to let the world know that you are indeed carrying a genuine Prada designer handbag.

Lingerie as Fashion Statement

Posted on: Oct 13, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

When Madonna first wore her sexy underwear as outerwear our parents were astonished and we thought she was soooo daring. Today a camisole or corset in public is the sexy norm and something for every woman – not just the most daring “material girls”. Of course you want to make sure sensitive bits are covered so you do not end up spending the night in jail instead of in the throes of passion!

A great way to show your taste for the lingerie look is through the use of bows and tassels. The ultra-popular low-rider jeans help with this and a there are a tons of thongs, panties and bustiers that are made to be shown. Lingerie now comes highlighted with crystals, sequins, fur and exquisite lace just begging to be shown off.

Thongs have been big for the past few years with more women discovering that thongs really are not just “uncomfortable butt floss” but give a really cool and liberating feeling. More women are wearing thongs for everyday activities and not just to look sexy for someone else.

Is anything sexier and more feminine than a corset? The demand for corsets is growing by leaps and bounds. With the camisole corset you don’t have to worry about the breathtaking fit of yesteryear – just the breathtaking look of you in all your womanly glory!

Of course, the best trend to come along recently is the tremendous growth in plus size lingerie quantity and quality. Not too long ago there were very few choices for big beautiful women for looking sexy and now there are whole stores dedicated to large size sexy costumes and garters and more. No longer does plus size mean minus sexy!
