Hermes – From Saddles To Perfumes

Posted on: Oct 21, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

Hermes is a Paris based fashion, perfume, and leather goods company. Thierry Hermes founded the company in 1837; originally as a manufacturer of saddles, riding boots, and bridles, catering to the carriage trade of the time. Over the years, the company’s catalog grew to include its signature silk scarf, luggage and couture, fragrances, glass wear and tableware, and ready-to-wear lines.

Since its inception as a leather goods shop in Paris, the company had been offering products of the highest quality. In 1855 the company won the first prize for businesses in its class at the Paris Exposition. Their well-designed and finely wrought leather riding items earned them not only the highest accolades, but also a large and loyal following.

When the carriage and horse riding industry began to wane in favor of automobiles, Hermes adapted its expertise at leather working to the creation of leather wallets, bags, luggage, and other accessories. These accessories were generally for sports such as golf and polo, leading to Hermes’ line of couture sportswear. In fact in the 1920′s, the brand made fashion news by designing for the Prince of Wales a zippered leather golfing jacket. (At the time the zipper was actually a new invention.)

The company continued to expand well into the 20th century, continually adding more items to their lineup. Their perfumery started in 1951, and over the decades since then Hermes has created such scents as Terre D’Hermes, Hiris, Rouge Hermes, and Un Jardin sur le Nil.

By the 1980s their lineup was truly immense, with clothing and accessories in different luxurious materials and styles, as well as date books and teapots. Since the company never gave out licenses, they are able to monitor closely the quality of each and every one of their items.

Through the years the company has maintained a mien of conservative luxury, with many items still bearing equestrian motifs, designating the company’s historic origins. But to the fashion industry’s surprise, at the turn of the century, the company hired on a few of the more radical designers of the day – who fortunately proved their worth by living up to the Hermes name.

The Oscar’s Style Alert – Strapless Gowns!

Posted on: Oct 21, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

At this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, not only were red gowns a huge hit amongst the style divas in the industry, but strapless gowns were also a must! If you’re preparing for a fancy event, find out how you too can look gorgeous like Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz, and Renee Zellweger!

Tip: Nix the necklace! The trend for 2008 is to pair a strapless gown with…nothing! Most of these style queens opted for a bare neck, while wearing simple earrings, rings, and bracelets.

Sweet Honey star Jessica Alba looked absolutely glowing in her Marchesa gown, and it wasn’t just because she is expecting! The plum-hued gown matched perfectly with Alba’s complexion and she looked like she truly was floating down the aisle. Her accessories featured a yellow-gold color pair of diamond earrings, with matching layered bangles.

Tip: Yellow-gold jewelry looks absolutely marvelous with gowns of a richer tone, such as plum, navy, or dark green.

There certainly is something about Cameron Diaz. Her light-blush colored Dior by John Galliano gown also matched perfectly with her skin-tone, while the strapless neckline perfectly demonstrated her always-sculpted physique. Again Diaz chose to nix the necklace while sporting a cocktail ring and simple, diamond earrings.

Tip: If your tresses are not cooperating on your big night, simply pull your locks back into a loose ponytail like Cameron. I don’t care what the style critics say, she looks absolutely glamorous!

Presenter and Jerry Maguire star Renee Zellweger looked simply stunning in a silver beaded Carolina Herrera gown. As opposed to the simple, solid colors of Cameron’s and Jessica’s strapless gowns, Renee’s ensemble is all glitter and glitz, which makes it necessary to limit ones accessories. All Renee has to do to top off this ensemble is to slip on a couple of matching bangles and off she goes!

Tip: Note that each actress is wearing a gown that perfectly compliments her skin-tone. For richer olive-colored skin, deeper hues look absolutely phenomenal. For pale skin, pastel colors are a perfect match!

Shoes Are More Than Footwear

Posted on: Oct 21, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

Almost everyone in an affluent society has at least one pair of shoes. Most have several pairs; and a few have a pair for every occasion and outfit. But, in defense of the individuals who seem to have a fetish, shoes are more than footwear.

Centuries ago, shoes denoted a person’s place in society. One peek at an individual’s feet and onlookers could tell whether this human being was a member of royalty or a peasant living on the street. The wear and tear on the shoes may yield a clue, but it was much more than the condition of the footwear.

Unbelievable, there was a time when it was illegal for anyone outside of society’s upper crust to wear shoes with a heel. Imagine people being arrested for their choice in footwear. In truth, the rich and royal actually got ridiculous when it came to wearing high heeled shoes. The assumption being that the bigger the heel, the greater the prosperity and place in the community. People were selecting heels so tall that servant had to serve as canes, so their master or mistresses did not fall from their shoes, breaking a leg or worse.

Shoes also help people in their chosen occupations. For example, a nurse will generally wear some kind of footwear with a cushioned soul, to manage long hours on his/her feet. Construction workers wear steel-toed boots as protective footwear. Firemen wear fire-retardant footwear that also withstands the mud and muck walked through while fighting a blaze.

But, some shoes are simply for the fun of it. After are hard week a work, many people like to frequent the night clubs and unwind with a night of drinking and dancing. In an effort to get noticed and make a fashion statement, ladies will don extremely feminine club wear and purchase accentuating shoes to complete the look.

Shoes are also important accessories for costumes. As the final touch, the footwear authenticates the desired persona. Personal relationships are also influenced by what an individual wears. From head to foot, individuals dress for success at work and play.

Yes, shoes are more than footwear. Shoes express who people are, what they do, and sometimes even their place in society as a whole. In addition, shoes are often a unique expression of moods and desires. What shoes are in your closet?

Safe Alternatives to Botox

Posted on: Oct 20, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

Those of you looking into botox treatments may wonder if there are safe alternatives to botox treatments. As you age the lines and wrinkles seem to multiply on your face and there’s nothing that will make you look older faster than those wrinkles. With botox being so popular recently it’s no wonder that as soon as we see wrinkles we think of botox as a solution. It’s true that botox can be one safe and effective way to remove wrinkles and lines from our faces, but you should take the time to look into other ways to take care of those wrinkles.

You should know before you get botox injections that it is a toxic substance. Botox is short for ‘botulism poisoning’ which is a type of food poisoning that is capable of causing severe illness and even death. When botulism is detected the person affected needs immediate medical attention and health officials frequently get involved to contain any potential outbreak. Botulism is not something to take lightly.

Botox is made from the same bacteria that causes botulism and it works by paralyzing the muscles that it’s injected into. A small amount of diluted botox is injected directly into the facial muscles causing them to weaken and thus making the skin over top of them smooth out. Once the skin smooths, then the wrinkles and lines disappear.

It’s a very extreme solution to a simple problem and you should know that there are other ways that are equally effective and safer than botox. Don’t get me wrong, botox does work wonders, however it still presents risks and the treatment needs to be repeated every 3-6 months making it expensive as well. Some people have developed cardiovascular problems from botox and some even experience a permanent loss of sensation in areas that have been injected with botox frequently. While botox is considered very safe it still poses some risks.

An alternative to these injections is a quality botox cream or anti aging cream. These creams are also pretty expensive, but they pose none of the risks you’ll get with botox. LifeCell and Revitol are two botox creams that are regarded quite highly. Plus you’ll find that the botox creams can remove some wrinkles that are untreatable by botox such as lines from sun damage.

Do your homework about wrinkle removal and you’ll find there are some alternatives to botox injections. Botox creams and anti aging creams can be a safe effective way to get the same results and keep a smooth youthful looking face. Botox injections may be your first thought, but it may not be the best solution.

What She Wants is a Little Silk and Lace for Christmas

Posted on: Oct 20, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

Today’s woman has so many concerns throughout the day. No longer is the stereotypical stay-at-home mom a reality. Many a woman is juggling a career, kids, community activities, coco chanel possibly home-schooling, in addition to everyday chores. In a 24-hour day, she stuffs 30-40 hours of living. Sometimes, it is hard to remember that she is not superwoman, and sometimes what she wants is a little silk and lace for Christmas.

A woman is good at so many occupations. Touted as the weaker sex, a woman can usually work a man under the table, so to speak. Although role sharing is becoming more acceptable, who is usually the one who cleans and cooks after work, bathes the kids, tucks them in, and then starts a load of laundry for work tomorrow? Under similar conditions, no wonder a woman often feels unappreciated.

Sometimes, a woman deserves a little pampering. What she wants is a little silk and lace, and to feel beautifully feminine. So, why not consider something a little different for Christmas this year? Instead of getting her something for the home, or an item she needs regardless of the holiday, give her something special in her stocking; or, simply give her stockings.

A gift certificate or a package from a lingerie store is much more than the expected nowadays. In addition to the expected sleepwear, specialty shops sell seasonal lingerie. Stockings for the holidays, and other accessories befitting the season, are only a small part of the inventory.

Lounge wear, costumes, and shoes are also available for making her spirit a little brighter. The choices are virtually countless. Once you have made the decision to purchase a little silk and lace for Christmas, you will definitely be challenged to pick out the perfect gift.

Do not simply give up and give her the standard fare. Remember, a gift certificate is always an option if you cannot decide. Otherwise, pick out several items and give her a smorgasbord of silk and lace for Christmas.

A Man’s Primer on Sexy Lingerie Styles

Posted on: Oct 20, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

For the last couple years lingerie and sexy wear sales have been booming. Intimate apparel terms like bustiers, baby dolls and teddies have become part of the female vocabulary. And their admiring men, too! Both Penney’s and Spiegel have recently announced big plans for expanding their lingerie lines. On-line, top Internet-only firms such as Sensual Mystique, Poison Angel and Elegant Moments report booming sales. It appears more and more women are buying lingerie for themselves and accepting gifts of lingerie from their husbands or partners.

A Melbourne fashion retailer has even suggested that the Australian government subsidize lingerie makers to help save marriages. The managing director of Lethal Fashion Accessories, Gail Lee, says the bonds of marriage should be reinforced with satin, lace and marriage truckload of Federal Government cash. He wants the government to subsidize half the cost. Not surprisingly, the Government has not responded.

Lingerie has come a long way from the white bra and panties photos that graced our mothers’ Sears and Penney’s catalogs. Now firms such as Victoria’s Secret define what women want to wear to feel sexy and desirable to men. And, according to these sellers, it’s the men that are doing a good deal of the shopping lately, making purchases that replace flowers or candy for a hot bra/pantie set or a sexy see-through teddy!

Who are these lingerie buying women? That’s what Anderson Analytics, A Stamford, Ct marketing research firm, wanted to find out. The results of their research confirmed some assumptions and contradicted others. They found that the “average size” (meaning slightly plus size) American woman feels under served by firms such as Victoria’s Secret who cater to a smaller and younger woman. They also discovered that these marriage American women were surprisingly confident about their sexuality and had no qualms about buying and wearing lingerie. “Career women,” however, were more insecure about their body image that what was assumed. “Apparently, size has little to do with our image of ourselves, and corporate stress can have a negative influence on our confidence,” the report concluded.

Go to any lingerie store, whether it be a suburban mall or on-line, and you’ll be amazed at the variety of choices. The terms alone can be overwhelming especially for clueless males. OK men, let’s do some defining:

Baby Dolls – These are lacy short gowns that are typically open in front with a single tie. Most are sheer or semi-sheer. They usually come with a matching thong.

Monokinis – This is a one-piece swim type suit but with large openings to show more skin. Swimming is optional.

Jumpsuits/cat suits- One piece form-fitting head-to-toe suit, many with an opening in front to show skin, sometimes a lot of skin. Usually made of spandex.

Teddy – One-pieces, like the body suit; teddies are often adorned with lace and ribbon. A sexier style comes with garters and is worn with stockings.

Bustier – A figure forming bra with sides that come down to the waist. Think Madonna.

Booty shorts – This hot style is defined by ultra tight spandex shorts that ride high in the rear. Add a matching mini top and you’ve got a booty short set.

Chain mail- Bra and panty set of linked chain often laced with rhinestones – and little else.

Add in g-strings, mini-dresses, chaps, leather wear, and sleek fishnet hose and you’ve got a recipe for sexy fun that can infuse spice and variety into almost anyone’s relationship.

Underwear For Your Prom Dress – What To Buy?

Posted on: Oct 20, 2008  By: admin  In all about  With: No Comments »

It’s almost the prom season again! Girls are getting excited over wearing those formal dresses Victoria’s Secret will make them look like Hollywood stars on the red carpet. But before you rush to the nearest store to find the dating prom dress, have you already thought about what you’re going to wear underneath?

Yes girls, it’s as equally important to know what underwear you will wear with your prom dress. Why? Because what you wear underneath will make or break your fashion statement. You wouldn’t want those lumps, bumps and fashion faux pas ruin your prom night. So here are some tips on buying underwear that will go with your prom dress.

Choose underwear that will give you a seamless look in your prom dress, just to be on the safe side. Some prom gown fabrics will cling to your body, so you better get rid of those visible panty lines beforehand. Pick a thong panty or G-string for a totally smooth look at the butt area. Or you can choose a seamless boyleg panty if you’re not comfortable wearing thongs.

Want to create an illusion of a smaller waistline? Girdles and waist cinchers can help you with that. They can hide the bulges in your waist and tummy area. Strapless bustier and corsets can also give you the same slimming effect. Just remember that you have to pick the right size. You’d want a shapewear that gives you a shapely look – but it should also allow you room to breathe. You don’t want to pass out on the dance floor, right?

If you’d like to look more “endowed” in the chest area, a push up bra is your best choice. Depending on your dress’s neckline, you can pick from strapless bras or convertible bras to make sure those bra straps are hidden from view. Going for a low neckline dress? Plunge bras can create that instant cleavage that will make you look hot in that sexy number.

There are also what you call backless bras for those – of course what else? – backless prom dresses. These may have low back straps, if you want “invisible” support, or may be something similar to adhesive bras that use skin-friendly adhesives for a more invisible look.

Adhesive bras or nipple covers are what you should pick if you plan to wear a prom dress that would show more skin. Just remember to secure your sexy gowns with some double sided clothing tapes to avoid embarrassing “peek-a-boos”.

So remember girls, picking the right underwear matters as much as buying the prom dress that will make you a real stunner. What you wear underneath will not only make you look more beautiful, it will also give you the confidence that will surely earn you the award of the night’s prom queen.
